Ingredients
- 4 cups sugar (or more to taste)
- 4 tablespoons gelatin powder
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup cold water
- Lemon or vanilla extract (to taste)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the cold water and gelatin powder. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly for about 5 minutes, until the mixture reaches 230°F (the softball stage) using a candy thermometer.
- Carefully pour the dissolved gelatin mixture into the hot sugar syrup. Stir well to combine and remove from heat.
- Divide the mixture into separate cups or bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup if you want a glossy look.
- Pour the mixture into various-shaped molds and let it set at room temperature until firm.
- Once the gumdrops are set, carefully remove them from the molds.
- Roll the gumdrops in sugar to coat them before serving.
